Torch
Light discipline on overnight games is a serious consideration and therefore torches need to be chosen carefully. Weapon mounted tactical lights, like Surefire torches, may look impressive but they can be counterproductive.
Tactical lights were designed for specific purposes and not for general illumination. Most players seem to use them as normal torches (for illumination) instead of tactical weapons. In the dark turning a torch on instantly gives your position away and assists people in aiming their weapons at you. Tactical lights should really only be used to enhance surprise and temporarily blind your opponent to give you vital additional seconds for taking them out and reduce the chances of accurate return fire. This is why tactical lights are so powerful.
For general illumination you will be better served by a head torch, which leaves your hands free to perform tasks. LED head torches are small and light whilst powerful enough to illuminate a sizeable area. A good choice is the Petzl Tactikka as it can give out both red and white light. The use of red light will preserve your night vision, which takes around 30 minutes to recover after being exposed to white light. Small LED lights (typically attached to key rings), such as those made by Inova and Photon, make excellent emergency torches.
